TRAINING / STARTING SERVICES

Some horses benefit from more than the occasional lesson.  Whether they are starting their education, working through specific challenges, returning to work after time off, or simply needing a more consistent training program, onsite training provides an opportunity for horses to receive regular handling and structured development in a supportive environment.

At Simon Fielder Horsemanship, every horse is approached as an individual. Rather than focusing solely on the outcome, Simon works to understand how each horse thinks, learns and responds, creating a program that develops confidence, understanding and willingness.

The goal is not simply to teach a horse what to do, but to help them understand the question being asked and develop the confidence to respond calmly and thoughtfully.

OUR APPROACH

At the heart of Simon's training philosophy is the belief that horses learn best when they feel safe, connected and understood.  Through clear communication, consistent guidance and feel-based training, horses are encouraged to develop:

  • Confidence

  • Focus

  • Softness

  • Responsiveness

  • Emotional regulation

  • Trust in both horse and handler

By slowing down and building strong foundations, horses are given the opportunity to process information, develop understanding and become willing partners in their work.

SUITABLE FOR

Onsite training may be suitable for:

  • Young horses requiring a solid foundation / starting under saddle

  • Horses returning to work

  • Horses lacking confidence

  • Retraining and troubleshooting

  • Float loading challenges

  • Horses requiring further education under saddle

  • Owners seeking support with specific training goals

  • Performance horses requiring fine tuning and development

Every training program is tailored to the individual horse and owner's goals.

OWNER INVOLVEMENT

While horses benefit from consistent training, long-term success occurs when owners are included in the process.

Owners are encouraged to remain involved throughout their horse's training journey and will receive regular updates regarding their horse's progress.

Where appropriate, follow-up lessons and coaching can be arranged to help owners develop the skills, feel and understanding needed to continue their horse's progress at home.

TRAINING

Training horses are cared for within the broader Simon Fielder Horsemanship environment, where horse welfare, respectful handling and good horsemanship practices remain the foundation of everything we do.

Each horse receives an individualised training plan based on:

  • Current level of education

  • Temperament and personality

  • Confidence and emotional state

  • Owner goals

  • Previous training history

This allows training to progress at a pace that supports understanding and long-term success rather than simply pursuing short-term results.

IS ONSITE TRAINING RIGHT FOR YOUR HORSE?

If you feel your horse would benefit from a period of focused education, support or development, we would love to discuss your goals.

Training positions are limited to ensure each horse receives the time, attention and individualised approach they deserve.

VACCINATIONS

The health and wellbeing of every horse on the property is extremely important to us.

To help protect the horses in our care, fellow owners, ourselves and visiting professionals, we require all horses staying on the property for agistment or training to be currently vaccinated against:

• Hendra Virus
• Strangles
• Tetanus

While we appreciate that vaccination decisions are ultimately a matter for individual horse owners, our experience has shown that maintaining a vaccinated population is one of the most effective ways to minimise the risk and impact of serious infectious diseases within a shared horse environment.

For horses residing on the property, vaccination helps protect not only the individual horse, but also the wider equine community. It also assists us in maintaining a safe and responsible environment for owners, veterinarians, farriers, service providers and visitors.

For horses attending the property for day visits, lessons, clinics or other short-term activities, we do not require vaccination. However, owners will be asked to complete a Horse Health Declaration confirming that their horse is healthy and free from any known infectious disease concerns prior to attending.

We recognise that every horse owner's circumstances are different and are always happy to discuss any questions you may have regarding our vaccination requirements. Our goal is simply to provide the safest possible environment for all horses and people who enjoy and use the facility.
